Troubleshooting QuickBooks Enterprise Data Connection

Use this guide to diagnose and resolve common issues when your QuickBooks Enterprise data connection is erroring or disconnected.

Troubleshooting Guidance

  1. Ensure you have the correct file path.
    1. Important: Do not use mapped drives (e.g., G:\QBE) in configuration files or application settings.

      Steps:

      1. Open Windows Explorer.

      2. Navigate to the mapped drive (e.g., G:).

      3. In the left-hand navigation panel, right-click on the mapped drive.

      4. Note the UNC path shown in parentheses (e.g., G: (\\bucs-remote-1\G)).

      5. Navigate to the target folder and copy the full UNC path (e.g., \\bucs-remote-1\G\BUCS\Client QB Files).

      6. Use this UNC path in the .ND file or any system configuration—never use mapped drive letters.

  2. Ensure BUCS Agent Runs Under a Domain User Account
    1. By default, the BUCS Agent runs under a local account, which may lack access to network resources. This must be changed to a valid domain account.

      Steps:

      1. Open up windows services in the Start menu

      2. Locate the service named “BUCSconnect Remote Agent Properties".

      3. Right-click and select Properties.

      4. Navigate to the "Log On" tab.

      5. Select the radio button labeled "This account".

      6. Click "Browse...".

      7. In the "Select User" window:

        • Click "Locations...", select the entire domain, and click OK.

        • In the input field, begin typing the username of the domain account used to install the agent.

        • Click "Check Names". If resolved correctly, the name will underline.

        • Click OK.

      8. Enter and confirm the password for the selected user.

      9. Click Apply and then OK.

      10. Restart the Bucs Agent service.

  3. If you have recently upgraded QuickBooks and were/are using single user mode, and your connection shows as Disconnected/Disabled, follow these quick steps:
    1. Switch to Multi-user Mode
      1. Click Yes in "Multi-user hosting setup required" pop up
      2. Click Continue in Administrator Permissions Needed pop up
      3. Click OK in "Set up multiple users" popup
    2. Switch back to Single-user Mode
    3. This should restart the QuickBooks database engine and get your connection back up.  Contact your CS representative to confirm.
