Verifying ODBC Driver Version and Install Matching BUCS Agent

  1. Open the Start Menu, type ODBC, and select:
    • ODBC Data Sources (32-bit) or
    • ODBC Data Sources (64-bit), depending on your system architecture
  2. In the ODBC Data Source Administrator window, locate the Pervasive Client Interface ODBC driver.
  3. Confirm whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit.
  4. Install the BUCS Agent version (32-bit or 64-bit) that matches the ODBC bit version. You will need the BUCS Remote Agent installed on the machine where your Sage 50 data is located.  Remote Agent installation instructions can be accessed here.

Configure the ODBC Connection

  1. Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator via Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC) or Search "ODBC Data Sources" in the Start menu.
  2. Click the System DSN tab, then click Add.
  3. Select the Sage 50 ODBC driver (or Pervasive ODBC Client Interface, if Sage 50 is not listed), then click Finish.
  4. In the data source configuration dialog enter a Data Source Name (DSN) for your Sage 50 company database. This can be BUCS.
  5. The server Name/IP will be default to Localhost. If the database is not on the local machine you need to enter in the IP Address of the Server where Sage50 DB is hosted.

ℹ️ An option if the IP Address is not known is to Open Sage 50 and under the File Menu select Open New Company. This will log you out of the current company and provide a list of available companies and the drive path to that company file. Then in windows file explorer, navigate to that drive path and determine the server name/IP address of the connection.

  6. Next select “Get List” and a list of available companies will populate. Select the company you want to connect to.
  7. Click Test Connection to verify the setup. Use credentials established above to confirm connection.
  8. Click OK to save the DSN.
